By the time fall rolls around, all eyes may well be on FX.

The cable network has announced premiere dates for some of its most high profile series, and we're already counting down the days to their debuts.

First out of the gate is Mayans MC aka the spinoff of Sons of Anarchy. It will air Tuesday nights in the 10/9c slot from September 4.

"Kurt Sutter is a master storyteller, and Mayans MC has the raw energy and intensity that are hallmarks of his signature style,” said FX president Nick Grad in a statement when the show landed a series order.

“Thanks to Kurt, co-creator Elgin James, and this amazing cast, Mayans MC builds on the legacy of Sons of Anarchy, taking it in a thrilling new direction that we can’t wait for the world to see.”

The new series will be set over two years after the events of Sons of Anarchy and will focus on EZ Reyes (JD Pardo) who is out of prison and ready to make a name for himself a member of Mayans MC.

The cast of the series also includes Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Richard Cabral and Michael Irby.

Meanwhile, American Horror Story will return to Wednesdays this year and will kick debut September 12 at 10/9c. As previously reported, American Horror Story Season 8 will be a crossover between Murder House and Coven.

It's unclear whether the likes of Connie Britton, Jessica Lange, and Taissa Farmiga will return, but more details will be announced at a later date.

Ryan Murphy confirmed that all the witches from American Horror Season 3 have been asked back, and Emma Roberts confirmed she would be back as Madison.

None of the other stars have been confirmed as returning, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.

FXX has also revealed that It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia will return for Season 13 Wednesday, September 5 at 10/9c.

The best part about Sunny is the leads are so creative you can find them there and pretty much everywhere else around TV these days, too.

While The Mick was canceled on Fox, Glen Howerton returns with AP Bio on NBC, and Charlie Day is bringing Cool Kids to Fox.

Still, if you haven't seen Sunny, after 13 seasons, don't you think it's about time to see what all the fuss is about?

Okay, TV Fanatics!

Are you as psyched to see the return of murder and witches on AHS as we are?

Do you think the Mayans have any chance of pulling in the kind of loyalty found by the Sons of Anarchy?

What are your thoughts on all of this FX news?

Hit the comments below and if you're interested, your best bet would be to watch American Horror Story online to get acquainted with the characters on that show that will be returning in the upcoming season.

With The Bear and Shogun Set to Dominate the Emmys, Is FX the New HBO?

The 2024 Emmys will be held on Sunday night, and while don’t yet know who the night’s big winners will be, it’s a safe bet that the folks responsible for the FX series The Bear and Shogun will have much to smile about.

The Bear leads all comedies (we’ll set aside, for now, the debate over whether the series can properly be considered a comedy) with 23 nominations.

While Shogun has the most nods among dramas, with a whopping 25.

The Bear is now the most-nominated sitcom in history.

And you’d have to go back to the early days of The Sopranos to find another instance in which a new drama earned as much acclaim as Shogun.

These shows have a chance to make history on Sunday night, and they’re both easy to root for.

Unlike past award season juggernauts like Game of Thrones, these shows are both underdog series that were never expected to make this big a splash.

And the most surprising thing about the success of both The Bear and Shogun is that your average American cable subscriber can watch them for free.

Yes, after years of domination by premium cable and streaming outlets, the Emmys are making way for a more basic platform — as in basic cable.

Now, FX — the little channel that could — is not the most nominated network of the year.

That title belongs to Netflix, with an astonishing 107 noms.

But FX follows close behind with 93 nominations — and the network managed that feat with a much smaller content library.

While Netflix and CEO Reed Hastings prefer to throw a whole lot of pilots at the wall and see what sticks, FX and chairman John Landgraf take a different approach.

The current FX business model is to go all-in with big risks on a handful of innovative shows.

In addition to Shogun and The Bear, the network received nominations for Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, Fargo, and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

Other acclaimed FX shows that released new episodes in the past year include The Old Man, The Veil, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

If that slate of shows proves anything, it’s that FX is not afraid of taking risks — and clearly, the network’s boldness is paying off.

It’s a situation that brings to mind the industry-redefining approach that HBO adopted in the late ’90s and early 2000s.

For our younger readers who may not have any memory of those years, HBO’s bread and butter used to be boxing matches between lesser-known fighters and movies that had wrapped their theatrical runs several months prior.

It wasn’t until the days of Sex and the City, The Larry Sanders Show, and The Sopranos that the network came to be known for original programming.

During those same years, FX (branded as “Fox gone cable” at the time) was mostly a repository for reruns of its parent network’s shows The X-Files, Married…With Children) with the occasional baseball or NASCAR broadcast thrown in.

Now, the basic cable channel seems to have taken a page from HBO’s playbook. And the results have exceeded even the most optimistic predictions.

It wasn’t all that long ago that the idea of FX reigning over award season would’ve seemed absurd.

But in 2024 the network managed to locate the sweet spot between critical and commercial appeal like no other network.

Not since the years when The Wire, Deadwood, The Sopranos, and SATC were all airing on HBO has one platform delivered so much high-brow fare that also appealed to the masses.

Samantha Jones is one of the many characters diagnosed with cancer who is lucky enough to create a positive platform out of her illness.

And with the exception of Reservation Dogs and What We Do in the Shadows, all of FX’s heavy hitters are expected to return for multiple more seasons.

If FX brings home dozens of Emmys on Sunday — as many have predicted — then the whole industry might be put on alert.

It’s the sort of development that might lead to more risk-taking, more innovative shows, and an end to the cancel-happy approach to programming that’s currently in vogue.

And that means FX’s wins might really be a victory for fans of compelling television.

What do you think, TV fanatics? Has FX picked up HBO’s mantle?

FXX isn't foolin' around today.

They just ordered a double season renewal of their highly rated and very funny comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which just ended it's 11th season.

The Gang Celebrates
(FX)

Giving the series an additional two years for Season 13 and Season 14 puts it into a tie with the Ozzy and Harriet Show for the longest-running live-action comedy series.

If the series scores a 15th season down the road, it will break the tie – in the year 2020.

“If anyone doubts the power of a camcorder and a dream, just look at It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which was a DIY backyard pilot when Rob, Charlie and Glenn brought it to FX and will go down in TV history as one of the most loved and enduring comedies,” said co-President of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions Nick Grad on Friday.

“Few shows make it this far or have such devoted fans, and we owe it all to the creative vision and great humor of the creators and cast who keep Sunny fresh and inventive every season.”

If you want to catch up on this hilarious series, you can watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia online here on TV Fanatic.

The cast of Stranger Things is growing on Netflix.

When Season 2 comes around, Paul Riser, Sean Astin and Linnea Berthelson will also be along for the ride.

Reiser will play Dr. Owens, a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a “clean-up” assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.

Astin will be Bob Newby, a kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.

Berthelsen will portray Roman, an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she doesn't live in Hawkins, she' mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab.

In addition to Ryder and Harbour, they’ll join new series regulars Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery, along with the group we've come to love already, Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Millie Bobby Brown (of course she's back!!).

With The Big Bang Theory Season 10 being the last with everyone on contract, CBS is starting to make plans for a potential spinoff.

While it's fully expected that the wildly successful series will be renewed for another season, if not more, it's time for the stars to start negotiating contracts, and that means possible changes for the upcoming seasons.

The spinoff, titled Sheldon, would focus on the 12-year-old prodigy and all the crazy characters in his life. Hello Meemaw! It would also be partnered with The Big Bang Theory on the schedule, and if successful, be the series to take the place of TBBT when it eventually goes off the air.

Yes, all good things must eventually end.

Jonathan Howard has been cast on the upcoming season of The Last Ship as a British Royal Navy Commander and MI-6 agent.

This handsome fellow is described as a cross between James Bond and a Navy SEAL, according to Deadline.

Fletcher is tasked to work with the crew of the USS Nathan James to recover stolen items crucial to the survival of the planet. I can't imagine what they might be, but it sounds a bit like an Indiana Jones situation.

He'll work closely with Sasha Cooper, who’s still with the ship, even in the absence of Capt. Chandler, who walked off Nathan James at the end of The Last Ship Season 3.

FXX has scheduled the season premieres for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Man Seeking Woman, it was announced today by Chuck Saftler, President of Program Strategy and COO, FX Networks.

On Wednesday, January 4, Season 12 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will return at 10:00 PM, immediately followed by the Season 3 premiere of Man Seeking Woman at 10:30 PM.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 12 will feature the gang going to a waterpark, dealing with a Wolf Cola PR nightmare and actually spending a whole day tending bar.

Man Seeking Woman Season 3 will see Josh face his toughest challenge yet: a serious, long-term relationship. Together, Josh and Lucy (Katie Findlay) will take on anniversaries, merging friend groups, ruthless drug lords, friendly forest creatures, student loans and even God himself.

Nashville's Chris Carmack confirmed in a tweet that Luke Wheeler, played by Will Chase, will return to the series.
